Freddie is 6 years old and lives with his mother, who is illiterate. Freddie has never been to school, but with the help of his friends in the community, he can count to 100, recite and write his alphabets, and read at a first grade level.
Prince lives with his mother in the West Point community. Like Josephus, Prince’s mother is unemployed and has not been able to afford an education for him since he was 5. At age 7, Prince will be returning to school next semester in the 1st grade.
Josephus lives with his mother in the West Point community. Josephus mother had been trying her best soliciting assistance for her son who had been out of school due to some financial problems she is faced with. Josephus last sat in class at the age of 5, and dropped out of school when his mother could no longer afford to send him to school.
Linda lives with her grandmother in the West Point community. As means of survival for her and her grandmother, she does petty trading around the community. The little money that Linda earns from selling only helps provide food for she and he grandmother.
