William Ward was born and raised in Monrovia, Liberia. As a child, he got firsthand experience of the Liberian civil war and the atrocities and sufferings it presented. In late 1998, he and his family were forced to flee Liberia for safety.
William Ward is an ardent believer of social justice and a fervent advocate of quality education for the underprivileged. Owing to his realization of how quality education can positively impact a standard of living, Mr. Ward organized the formation of Smile Liberia International, Inc. (SLI) in 2006.
William has a strong drive for education and a firm belief that it is the only hope of eliminating poverty and suffering everywhere. He has dedicated his time to helping bring a change to Africa’s most impoverished communities by promoting quality education. Mr. Ward holds a Masters of Science degree in Computer Information Systems and is currently employed at a fortune 500 company where he manages and implements a variety of enterprise information technology projects. He aspires to obtain an MBA in Financial Management.
We are happy to report the first 4 beneficiaries of the Send 'em to School project.
Project "Send 'em to School" is Smile Liberia's newest effort to ensure that every child in the West Point community obtains an education. During a recent visit to the West Point area, we discovered that there were more school-aged children out of school than those that are in school. This is due to abject poverty in this community.
